BARON ROSE BOWL @St AUSTELL 20th June 2013

Despite the dire weather warnings, everyone got round the first 18 holes with just a brief shower. The afternoon round started along with the rain. Apart from one pair all the pairs completed their second round in the rain .

We had all been issued with a note of the procedure in event of flooding and play being suspended.

This didn’t happen  while everyone was out playing but after the competitors had all finished and cards handed in and processed and scores posted, the County Committee   decided retrospectively that the course was unplayable and to cut the competition down to 18 holes. This was a strange decision to make .

In 1st place on 18 holes and winning the Baron Bowl with a net 69 was Newquay pair Fiona Polklington and Pat Greenwood.

In 2nd place on 18 holes also with a net 69 but losing on countback was Truro pair Jennie Hosen and Anna Sendall.

In 3rd place  on 18 holes  with a net 70 were Killiow pair Emma Burrows and Sue Dickenson.

The Team Trophy went to Newquay with a net 221.5

No other prizes were given.

Perranporth Team scores for 18 holes were  Jan and Vera with a net 77.5, Jo and Vicky with a net 74 and Nikki and Jenny with a net 70.5 = 222.

If the 36 hole scores had stood the Perranporth Team would have won the Team Trophy by 10 shots with a total of 450 from Carlyon Bay. Jo and Vicky would have been 3rd overall

Overall it resulted in  a  farcical, very wet,  tiring and disappointing day for everyone  involved.
